OBJECTIVE :
This policy is intended to establish safety requirements for our employees who may work with or near electrically energized equipment during the course of delivering their duties at sites.

POLICY :
This policy applies to all Engineers, Supervisors, Skilled and Unskilled workers. For the purposes of this policy the following definitions apply:

Skilled / Qualified person: One who has skills and knowledge related to the construction and operation of the electrical equipment and installations and has received safety training to recognize and avoid the hazards involved.

Unskilled / Unqualified person: A person who is not a qualified person. Any electrical system modification must be reviewed by and approved by an electrical supervisor.

Safety precautions at construction site :
Ensuring Every engineer adopt safety precautions as part of the job. They must practice the safety precautions, till they are accustomed.

Accidents Prevention Programme :
EHS Manager and Safety Supervisors are responsible for assisting the constructors, in working out a safety programme. Periodically inspecting all the working spots to detect any flaws in the programme and to monitor the performance of the programme.

Ensuring the following at site
  • Not using mobile phones at workplace
  • Not having alcohol Or Not allowing workers who have had alcohol
  • Not attempt to work with electrically energized equipment without prior notice to Engineer
  • Prompt Incident reporting
  • Planning and Implementing Precautions

Site Safety Programme :
Determining a suitable course of action in day to day activities for the effective implementation of the safety programme.
EHS Manager should inspect the work spot at least once a day, making on-the-spot corrections of the unsafe acts of the workmen and taking suitable steps to eliminate all the unsafe conditions.

Personal Protective Kit :
Ensuring each worker received and using personal protective kits including
  • Safety Helmets
  • Safety belts
  • Hand gloves
  • Safety goggles
  • Safety Shoes

Emergency Management System :
Giving training and educating our employees about most possible injuries at site and providing First Aid Kit.
Ensuring all workers get training in first aid procedures in emergency.
In case of any incident, ensuring proper analysis for the incident and implementing the precautions for future and necessary help/actions.

Training :
Training shall be provided to any employee at risk of being exposed to an electrical hazard as part of their typical job duties. The level of training is dependent on the classification of the employee as either a "qualified person" or "unqualified person".

A qualified person shall, at a minimum, receive training in the following topics:
  • The safety related work practices that pertain to their job assignments as well as the ability to determine the PPE requirements necessary to perform their jobs safely
  • The skills and techniques necessary to distinguish exposed live parts from other parts of electric equipment
  • The skills and techniques necessary to determine the nominal voltage of exposed live parts.
  • The allowable approach distances and corresponding voltages to which the qualified employee will be exposed.

An unqualified person shall, at a minimum, receive:
  • Awareness level of electrical safety training and shall be familiar with the work practices necessary to conduct their job safely.

Training must be performed before the employee is assigned tasks requiring work around or on electrical systems.
